If you want to enlarge or re-shape your buttocks and have discovered that they are not responsive to diet or exercise, buttock augmentation may be a good option. A buttock augmentation or buttocks lift contours the buttocks and compensates for low amounts of fat in the area. Women and men who undergo buttocks enhancement can enjoy a more voluptuous and perky profile.
The buttocks can be lifted, enlarged and sculpted, using liposuction, implants or fat, or any combination of the three. The type of surgery performed will depend on your anatomy and the new look you desire. Buttocks surgeries take into consideration your size, shape and skin quality, as well as your personal goals. A surgical lift is most often recommended after significant weight loss, when there may be loose or excess skin.
Ideal Candidates for a Brazilian Buttocks Lift
People who are in overall good health are ideal candidates for a BBL. The best candidates have a fair amount of excess fat in other regions of the body like the abdomen, thighs, or back. Ideal Brazilian buttocks lift candidates have realistic expectations in terms of results.
Preparing for Your Brazilian Buttocks Lift
Dr. Ganchi will give you all the necessary instructions to prepare for the surgery. While some of them will relate to your specific anatomy and medical history, others are routine and are provided to every individual undergoing BBL surgery.
The following Brazilian buttocks lift preparations apply to most or all patients:
- Stop alcohol consumption and smoking 2 to 3 weeks before your scheduled date of surgery.
- Refrain from taking the following medications/supplements at least a week before surgery: Ibuprofen, fish oil supplements, aspirin, garlic supplements, Vitamin E supplements, birth control pills, warfarin, clopidogrel, and ximelagatran.
- Maintain a steady weight and BMI under 30.
- On the day of the BBL surgery, wear loose, comfortable clothing. Avoid applying perfumes, deodorants, makeup, and/or lotions.
Buttock Augmentation with Fat Transfer (“Brazilian Butt Lift”)
Buttock augmentation with fat transfer, also known as the Brazil Butt Lift (BBL)in honor of the country in which it was developed, involves three steps. First, the patient’s own fat is harvested through liposuction. The most popular areas for liposuction before buttock augmentation are the lower back, waist, flanks (love handles), thighs and stomach. This not only provides the raw material for buttock enhancement, it also contours the areas around the buttocks for a more dramatic result. The fat is then purified using a special process so that it remains hearty and ready to be transferred. Finally, the purified fat is injected into the buttocks at various depths for the desired results.
Brazilian Buttocks Lift Recovery and Healing
For a few days following your BBL surgery, you can expect some swelling and bruising in the donor and injection sites, which is quite normal. You will be given pain medication to manage any discomfort.
You’ll also be given a special compression garment by Dr. Ganchi that you will wear the per her instructions. Typically, BBL patients are asked to wear this support garment for 4 to 6 weeks. It is used mostly for comfort and to control localized swelling.
At about one month after surgery all activities can be resumed including exercise. Minimal residual swelling will resolve completely at around 3 months and the grafted fat “take” will be apparent and permanent, barring significant weight fluctuations.
